WEll light

The Well table lamp started as a simple image of a stone well with its wooden cover. A source worth protecting by a structure built around it. That quiet relationship between something essential held inside and a lid keeping it while remaining available.

The lamp’s frame is made from Canadian quilted maple, with rich surface textures drawn from the swirling grain that is brought out with a wood burning technique (yakisugi) and an oiled finish. Standing 40cm tall, Well has a strong presence and is intended to hold its own in a room as much as it lights it. 

Well’s light source is diffused through a strongly textured mulberry Japanese Kozo paper and reflected off a tiltable stainless steel shade, casting a soft, warm glow. The shade's orientation is maintained with paracord and a cord stop, giving the user control over how the light falls and the ambiance they want to create.
