Based in Canada and Denmark, Attirail design office works with clients and manufacturers in both Europe and North America.
The studio designs objects that are rational, honest, and made to last: furniture, lighting, houseware, and everyday things that earn their place through use. Its practice operates at the intersection of functional rigour and emotional intelligence, treating both as equal forces rather than opposing ones.
Attirail works as a design consultancy, supporting companies at any stage of the process, from early concept to technical development and quality control. In parallel, the studio develops its own original designs, which are made available for edition in collaboration with manufacturers who share its values.
The name Attirail (pronounced ah-tee-rye) is a French word for a comprehensive collection of activity-related gear. The studio sees the necessity for humans to surround themselves with objects as a reason to work towards designing things that work, that fit naturally, and that hold up over time.
Guillaume Roy is an industrial designer based in Copenhagen. He studied at the Kolding School of Design and has since worked across set design, body-centred medical products, domestic objects, and public installations.
His background includes time at Moment Factory, where he worked in set design and large-scale experiential production, as well as formative periods at Philip Bro Ludvigsen and Standard Practice. His practice is shaped by an interest in the relationship between the human body, the objects that surround it and how form is conditioned by use, and how products earn their presence through function rather than gesture.
Outside the studio, his attention turns to skating, music, fashion, electronics, and the details of urban life he captures through photography.
Gilbert Fortin is an industrial designer based in Montréal. He studied industrial design at the Université de Montréal and pursued further training in technical garment design, deepening his understanding of fabrication, material behaviour, and pattern construction across textile-based products.
Over many years of consultation work, he has worked across a wide range of scales and contexts, from one-of-a-kind pieces developed in close collaboration with craftspeople to high-volume products for international manufacturers. His work spans kitchen tools and tableware for professional chefs, furniture, lighting, public spaces, urban furniture, and trade installations.
When not in the studio, his attention goes to music, cooking and spending time outdoors.
